As the leaves shift their colors, we’re reminded that change is a constant part of life. You’ve probably heard it before: the only thing you can count on is change. It can provoke a range of reactions—yell, cry, withdraw, upset stomach, and more. But these reactions don’t alter the reality of change, so why do we respond this way? The answer lies in our survival instincts.
You might be thinking, "Is that true?" Yes! Our minds are wired to protect us, perceiving change as a potential threat. Even when change is something you desire, you still experience these reactions. However, by becoming more aware, you can shift your reactions to change.
What's one thing you can do? Start by tuning into your body sensations. Everyone experiences these sensations differently, so it’s important to respect others’ responses as well. By paying attention to how your body feels during times of change, you can gain insight into your thoughts and uncover the reasons behind your resistance through thoughtful self-reflection.
A body scan can be a powerful tool to help you connect with your sensations more deeply.
