Who's Running Your Day? You or Your Patterns?

Updated: Mar 31

Living in fast-paced, auto-pilot days creates a breeding environment for habitual thought patterns to run your actions. The more these habitual patterns run your actions, the more momentum they get. Have you ever reflected at the end of a day and asked, “Who ran my day?” or “What ran my day?” or “What happened to my day?” or “How did I eat this whole bag of chips?” or “Why did I explode with my kids?”. Did your day run you with habitual patterns versus conscious choices? A pause interrupts the momentum of habitual patterns, giving you time to consciously choose your next action versus your subconscious habitual pattern. A pause allows you to choose:

  • Yes, I want to eat this or no, I don’t

  • To listen versus talk

  • To state how you’re feeling or explode with hurtful words

  • Whether you really want to quit or to stay on your path towards your goal

After a pause you resume being more present in your experience. You’re more conscious and in control of your next action.

Why is a pause so powerful?

Giving yourself a moment of pause, allows you body’s nervous system to calibrate. In this moment, you have a choice. The choice in how you want to respond or react.
